Adams Morgan Day Festival 2008
Sunday, Sept 14, 2008   30th Anniversary Noon till 7pm
(Arts on Belmont opens at 10:00am)
"A Global Community of Diverse Cultures"

The Adams Morgan Day 18th Street Festival begins and ends with two headlining music stages and other innovative & dynamic cultural and dance activities. The famous Columbia and Florida stages (located strategically on 18th Street at Columbia Road and at Florida Ave.) feature live music acts from all genres from Central and South America, Latin rock, salsa, jazz, to soul, funk and American rock.

The Longest Continuous Neighborhood Festival in DC!

First held in 1978, this nationally known event features the international and cultural diversity and creativity that is the hallmark of Adams Morgan. This Festival celebrates the dynamism and innovation that arises from the melting pot of cultures and their interaction together. The longest continuously running neighborhood Festival in DC always produces consistently large attendance in the 25,000 range. The compact 4 block area allows different venues & locations that are advantageous to sponsors, vendors, and visitors, not to mention local residents.

Adams Morgan Day also showcases the local business area as an ethnic, eclectic retail, entertainment and restaurant locale. Adams Morgan was named one of the 20 best neighborhoods in the United States by the 2005 Project for Public Spaces, calling it “the toast of the DC urban experience.”

NEW in 2008!   "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia!"   coming to DC and AMDay
The SUNNY Game Show Tour --- check it out near the Columbia Stage.

Belmont fills up fast!

Arts on Belmont has long been one of the popular draws with its high quality of original artisans and range of media exhibited: an array of glassware and metalwork, paintings, jewelry, sculpture & photography. Nestled on shade tree lined street of historic town homes, Arts on Belmont is a beautiful venue with articles in all price ranges

New in 2005, originated by Adams Morgan Main Street, is the dynamic Dance Plaza (located on the grounds of the Marie Reed School) with interactive dance workshops that encourage audience participation, and cover the range and styles of many cultures.

The Cultural Stage (located at Columbia Road and Euclid Street) also boasts a variety of acts, including poetry, theater, dance and music, even the Sitar Arts Center of Adams Morgan.

Jazz Oasis in the Park was a new venue in 2007. For residents with children who may want a quieter, more contained area, Kalorama Park is the place to sit on a bench, spread a blanket, listen to local jazz, and have a few select vendors. Look for some great local jazz bands this year! Line-up coming soon…

The new festival layout originated by AdamsMorgan Main Street in 2004 highlights the neighborhood scale architecture and leaves all the business storefront façades visible to festival attendees. Browsing is improved as Festival visitors may now traverse in a circle around the single row of vendors with businesses on one side and the vendors on the other.

This gives more visibility for sponsors, vendors and local biz!

AdamsMorgan MainStreet Group organizes and hosts the Festival. This local non-profit umbrella organization of residents, businesses and non-profits works to retain and promote the unique, vibrant character of the Adams Morgan business area. AM Main Street is headed by Chair Lisa Duperier and Executive Director Janet Lugo-Tafur. Check out the linked site: www.AdamsMorganNOW.com to see all the venues & biz located in Adams Morgan.

AdamsMorgan MainStreet is proud of the support shown by the local businesses and non-profit community organizations that participate in various ways. The street festival provides discounts for local Adams Morgan businesses and non-profits. Businesses now stay open during the Festival, with the colorful sidewalk cafes, and retail stores open.
